UGC scripts and hooks: match the format to the buying question

By UseHype · Brand campaign guides

Start a UGC script with the viewer’s unanswered question. Then choose a scene that can answer it honestly. A hook earns its place when the rest of the video delivers what the opening promised.

Write the question before the opening line

A shopper may want to know whether a bag fits a laptop, how a kitchen tool is cleaned or what happens after signing up for an app. Those questions suggest specific demonstrations. “You need this” does not tell the creator what evidence to film.

For a bag, an original opening could be: “Here is what fits inside when I pack for a workday.” Follow it with the actual items and closing zip. Avoid saying it fits every laptop unless you have the measurements and evidence to support that claim.

Use a simple shot-and-sentence script

Divide the script into opening, demonstration, relevant limitation and next step. Write what appears on screen beside what is said. This makes it easier to spot a claim that the pictures never support. Read the words aloud before approving them; a script that looks concise can still sound unnatural.

Example: open on the bag beside the unpacked items; show the laptop entering its compartment; show the remaining pockets; finish with the packed bag being carried. The spoken explanation can name the demonstrated device size and tell viewers to check their own measurements.

Choose a format that serves the evidence

A product demonstration suits visible actions. An unboxing suits packaging and first setup. A testimonial suits a real user’s experience. A comparison needs a fair basis and evidence for the differences. Do not use a staged personal story to make a demonstration sound more convincing.

A podcast-style scene is a filming format, not proof that an independent interview took place. A street interview needs willing participants and a clear explanation of the intended use. A skit can communicate a situation, but fictional dialogue should not become a fabricated customer endorsement.

Adapt language without changing the claim

Ask a fluent speaker to adapt a line into Pidgin, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa or another intended language. Provide the meaning and approved product facts rather than insisting on a literal translation. Review the captions with someone who understands both versions.

For a fintech walkthrough, a casual phrase should not turn a conditional feature into a guarantee. Keep required explanations readable and spoken at a natural pace. Local language can make a scene appropriate for its audience; it does not guarantee conversion.

Commission useful variations

Change one meaningful element at a time: the buying question, opening scene or order of explanation. Three rewritten versions of the same vague promise may teach you little. Label the versions so the person running the test can connect results to creative decisions.

Agree the exact number of hooks, complete edits and aspect ratios. A short, medium and long version may need different pacing rather than a simple crop. Review each export to ensure the main evidence and any necessary qualification survive the edit.
